Gross and fascinating: Mütter Museum film premiering in September
Identical twins the Quay Brothers are soon releasing a film about Philadelphia’s Mütter Museum, a most impressive collection of medical anomalies and one of my favorite places on the planet.
The film will premiere in September 2011:
• September 22: The College of Physicians of Philadelphia
• September 24: The Museum of Modern Art, New York
• September 27: Cary Grant Theater, SONY Pictures Studios, hosted by The Museum of Jurassic Technology, Los AngelesAfter the premiere screenings, you’ll be able to purchase the DVD for yourself. Plus, the museum will host an exhibit about the making of the film. Barbara London, Associate Curator, Department of Media and Performance Art at MOMA, will be guest curator.
Wonderful series of interior shots and brief history of The Divine Lorraine, the luxury apartments cum hotel cum cultish religious center located on North Broad Street in Philadelphia. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places for both architect’s Willis G. Hale’s lavish Late Victorian design and for being the first hotel in the U.S to be fully racially integrated, it is beautiful, falling apart, and right out my window.

1/5 Stars for Philadelphia Bar & Restaurant on Yelp
This jawn just opened, so I feel like I should be cutting them more slack, but the mediocre-to-disappointing meal I had leads me to believe that PBR is either wildly misguided or just painfully unprepared for the challenges of opening a new restaurant.

Sensible rave on Garces Trading Co.
My one bone to pick: the cheese and charcuterie prices seem totally reasonable to me: on par with, or cheaper than, DiBruno Bros. and, in the case of the pricier imports, totally out of their control.
Disclosure: I briefly worked here.

Or How I Learned to Make an Ass Out of Myself and Get Worked Up Over Nothing
Yet another food site, The Daily Meal, went up last week. It seemed promising: a nice mix of recipes, foodie culture, howtos, industry-side chatter, pictures, videos, blogs, links, social media fuck-all, etc. Naturally, to achieve any kind of regional interest, they’re incorporating local voices in the form of ‘Word of Mouth’ contributions. Naturally, I gravitated to the Philadelphia category and took some interest in the top entry, a ‘Best of Philadelphia’ list, broken out by category. A list with which I readily engaged and diplomatically responded to. I’ll let my rage speak for itself, but know that this reflects a lot of my philosophy about dining and my ongoing difficulty with choosing favorite restaurant experiences:
