Sam L Roth, the blog

This is a tumblelog, an ad-hoc collage of my online goings-on and discoveries with occasional commentary. It is powered by Tumblr, a free, hosted web app that allows for amazing customization. For example, it allows me to pull in most of my content from other sources. Though I funnel them through a few different Pipes

I created the site to centralize my web presence, to tie together my personal and professional lives.
Please share any comments or advice you may have!

The theme is adapted from Ultralite with a Streampad running audio content at the bottom. All other content is Creative Commons licensed unless otherwise noted.

Sam L. Roth, the man

I have too many interests, but refuse to accept that as even being possible. Some might say that I am spread too thin, my knowledge broad, but far too shallow. I like to think I epitomize the liberal arts.

I was born in the Bay Area, moved to Philadelphia where my family lives (and my mom is a food writer), attended Beloit College in Wisconsin and have recently returned to the City of Brotherly Love.

I majored in literary studies, but have studied in disciplines as far-flung as Chinese Calligraphy, Cosmology, and Accoustics. I also helped run the college FM station. For more info, see Sam L Roth, the Academic.

I spent a semester studying literature in Budapest, Hungary, as well as personal trips to Paris, Madrid, Toledo, Prague, Vienna, and Amsterdam. A top priority in all of those places was the food I ate, which I eventually turned into an independent study. I have some professional experience in a kitchen, a keen interest in becoming a better chef, and am trying to integrate myself with the burgeoning Philly food scene. For more info, see Sam L Roth, the foodie.

Much of my time is spent tracking the increasing scale, complexity, and global saturation of the web, including the laws and technologies which define it. This has become a professional pursuit: I have held two internships specializing in web strategy, as well as taking on some freelance work in marketing, advertising, strategy, and development. I intend on using this blog to showcase future work and always keeping my resumé and my LinkedIn up to date. For more info, see Sam L Roth, the professional.

I live in Pennsport, Philadelphia with my delightful girlfriend Semper and our cat Spoon. She is an academic who makes really wonderful jewelry and crafty things.
